WELLINGTON, April 19

At the Trade and Labor Council a motion in favor 1 of the nationalisation of coal mines was carried. It was decided to urge the Government to have a stationary engine driver's certincajtei and it was resolved that the customs duties on necessaries of ?ife be romoved. An amendment to include the income tas was defeated. Resolutions were passed urging the Government to establish bootmaking and tailoring shops!; also to license second-hand dealers ; to amend clause 33 of the Coal" Mines Act; to adopt eight hours for millers; to make the rating on unimproved values act r.n mandatory. The conference resolved that old age pensions be made universal, provided conditions as to residence, age, etc., are complied with. A committee was set up to di^juss the question of establishing and registering trade union labels. The Government is to be urged to procure j close to the principal cities, sites for workmen's homes.*
