Turua Notes.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TURUA, Jan. 27. PATRIOTIC FUND. The patriotic meeting, adjourned from last Saturday, was held on Thursday evening in the Victoria Hall. Mr. W. H. Bagnall was voted to the chair, and called upon Mr.- L. J. Bagnall to open the business, which he did by moving the following motion: "That subscription lists be opened for the patriotic fund in connection with the war in South Africa." This was seconded by Mr. Arthur Young and carried unanimously. Mr. R. W. Bagnall moved, "That a committee be formed for the purpose of carrying out the above resolution, consisting of Messrs. L. .J. Bagnall, W. H. Bagnall, A. E. Bagnall, W. McCai-thney, J. Stewart, J. Osborne, W. Elvin, G, Ryan, A. Young and the mover." Mi. Osborne seconded this, which was also earned. Mr. A. Young moved, "That the money obtained be giver. ;■•■ ihe fund for equipping the third contingent." This was seconded by Mr. Elvin and caiTied unanimously. Mr. Hull suggested that two funds be raised —one for the Boers and one for the British. Mr. Bagnall explained that when the war is over the Boers would be .well looked after by .the British. Son<*s were given by Mr. S. Purdom and Master U. Bagnall, and the singing of the National Anthem brought a very enthusiastic meeting to a close. THUNDERSTORM. A sharp thunderstorm passed over this place yesterday, and the raw •which, fell was very welcome. We could do with a good deal more, as everything is parched for want ot water. _ January ov. The barque Casa arrived Tiere early yesterday morning, in command of Captain Whitton, to load timber for Melbourne.
