Referring to a paragraph which appeared in yesterday's paper re the chess match between Thames and Hamilton, we are informed that the positions at the boards at the conclusion of the match were as follows :— No. 1 board : Positions equal, Thames 2 pawns to the good. No, 2: Win for Hamilton through clerical error of Thames player who mislead a move and had therefore to sacrifice his queen. No. 3: Game equal, but Hamilton player made a mistake in the early part of the game and was allowed to take back bis queen, which he had lost. No. 4 : Win for Thames, which was a knight to the good. No. 5 . Game fairly even. No. 6: Win for Thames, knight to the good. No. 7 : Win for Thames, knight to the good. No. 8 : Win for Hamilton, knight to the good. I*o. 9: Game fairly even, Thames had a pawn to the bad. The following are the rules under which the matches were played :— 1. Play to commence at 7 p.m. 2. Each player must make 25 moves before 10.30 p.m., and another 10 moves at least before close of play at midnight. ,3. No move to take more thaa 10 minutes. 4. All errors to be penalised. Clerical errors and impossible n'oves to be penalised to the extent of the offender having to move his king. 5. Touch and move strictly enforoed.
