The Band Tournametn.

PALMERSTON N., February 22. 3 The band tournament commenced yesterday afternoon, the E and B flat bass solos being played, but the judge has reserved his decision till after the slide trombone solos, which are proceeding this morning, are completed. Last evening the first test selection was played, Wellington and Wanganui Garrisons, Palmerston North, Grey mouth, Waihi, Jupps, Fielding, Mifchelltown, Masterton and Woodvillo bands competing, and the judge has reserved his decision till after the second test selection, which will be played on Friday evening. There were five entries for B flat bass solo, nine for E fla,t bass, and eleven for slide trombone solos. This evening the soprano cornel contests, for which' twenty-two entries have been received., are to be played.
