THE TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB.

AUCKLAND, February 22
The stewards of the Takapuna Jockey Club held a public inquiry into the complaint of Mr. W. Knight, handicapper, that a serious charge had been made against him by Alexander A. Phillips, owner of Knight of Athbl. In answer to questions Phillips admitted that there was no foundation for the statements made, and he wished to be allowed to withdraw them, and was prepared to apologise. The stewards agreed to accept an ainp}e apology, to be published in thp leading sporting papers in this colonyj failing which disqualification for six uionths would be imposed. Phillips intimated he would carry out the decision immediately and publicly apologise.
