Kopu, December 22,
Eopu was quite en fete on Tuesday night, when a complimentary 1; social was tendered to the Hon. !A. J. Cadman, Minister of Railways.' There was a large attendance of lames and gentlemen from all parts of the district, including the Hon. W. McCullough* the Mayor, and Mr Jaa. Mills (Mayor of Te Aroha), and altogether a very pleasant evening was spent, thanks to 1 the exertions of Messrs E. F. Tizard, , R. P. Gibbons, and others who had the arrangements in hand. Mr E. F. Tizard, J.P., occupied the Chair, and was supported on his tight Jby the guest of the evening—the Hon. A. J. Cadman, The following programme was gone through .most successfully, the accompaniments being played by Misses Stephenson and Phillips, Mrs Cassrells, and ;Mr A, E. Dodd: Song, "Who's that Tapping at the Garden Gate?" Mrs Horatio Phillips (encored); song, '• Anchored," Mr P. Eose (encored) ; recitation, " Over the Hill to the Poorhouae," Mr Peacock (twice recalled)-; pianoforte solo, Miss Stephenson ; song, "A Mother's Love," Miss Charlotte Lawlor; Cachuca dance, Misses Guthrie and Olga Cassrells ; song, " Golden Argosy," Mr Jaa. Kernick; song, "Listening." Miss Williams (encored); abog, if The Sleeping Camp," Mr A. W. B. Davis (encored); pianoforte solo, Miss Denby; song, « The Deathless Army," Mr Brough (encored); jong, 'f ; The Old Countree," Miss Carter (encored). In the. course of the evening, short addresses were given by the Chairman, the Mayor, and the Hon. A. J. Cadman, who, in a neat speech, thanked them for their kind recetitfcn.
