The Postmaster-General, replying to a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, said he was unable to give any definite assurances re the Pacific Cable, until the intention of Great Britain and Canada was made knowr. In the meantime he is pulling a number of strings which will probably lead to a reduction in the present rates to about a half.
