The breaking up of the Waio*' Karaka School took place this morning, when the prizes given by the head teacher (Mr Isemanger) for proficiency, and the certificates for regular attendance, were presented by the Mayoress (Mrs H. J. Greenßlade) at the request of the Waiotahi District School Committee. The following is the

Prior to the presentation of prizes by the Mayoress, the Mayor (Mr H J. Greensladei addressed the 'children. He said:—Children and teachers, I am very pleased to meet you here to-day because, when I was coming across to the school, it struck me that it was from this school that I went into the world to undertake the duties of life. It is therefore all the more gratifying on that account, that I should, have been asked to be present to-day. I think you will all agree with me that you should be attentive to your school duties, as you have such an excellent and valuable inducement held out to you by the Head-teacher, Mr Isemonger, who has provided all these beautiful prizes at his own expense. You ought also to be grateful to your parents for having allowed you to attend school regularly and thus win attendance certificates. I hope that amongst the boys and girls here to-day we have a future Mayor and Mayoress. (Loud Applause). The Mayoress was then presented with a pretty bouquet by Miss Esther Harris.

Mr I3etnong3r thanked the Mayor and Mayoress for their attendance, and called for three cheers for them.

Cheers having been heartily given, the children sang too verses ot "My own New Zealand Home" under the conductorship of Mr A. W. B. Davis, assistant teacher.

Cheers having been given for Mr Isemonger and the holidays, the j National Anthem was sung, after I which the school was dismissed by the head teacher. As they left the school they were plentifully supplied with lollies, the gift of the Mayor. KAUAERANGA BOYS' SCHOOL,

The breaking up of the above school took place at 2 o'clock this afternoon, when the prizes and certificates were presented by Mr Paul) (Chairman of thin Committee.) The school was prettily decorated, and the large flag was flying. The proceedings commenced with a short programme in the infant room, after which the higher classes sang in a spirited style "Bed, White and Blue."
