The Gladstone Memorial Fund.
Mr The©. Wood, who was successful in collecting £t6 3s 6d from Thames admirers of the late Hon. W. E, Gladstone, has received the following letter from Mr F. E. Baume, Perma
nent Chairman of the Auckland Gladstone Memorial Committee:— "My dear Mr Wood,—lt gives mo great Sleasure, on behalf of the Gladstone [emorial Committee, to convey to you, and through you, to the residents of the Thames, our sincere thanks for and grateful recognition of the large sum of money collected by you. I have also to thank you personally for the great trouble you have taken in the matter —a trouble which I know you will deem to have been taken foi a worthy object. We have, we believe, sufficient funds in hand for our pur pose, and hope when the bust arrivesthat all the subscribers to your lisi (amongst whom I notice many old personal friends) will be able to see it, and will be satisfied with the meant taken to ensure*o the Auckland dis triot asd the Thames the possession of a permanent memorial of the late Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone."
