To (lay the Irish" centenary ot the rebellion of 1798 was commemorated locally by the Irish citizens. This morning a solemn requiem Mass was held at St. Patrick's Cathedral for the repose of the souls of those who, died in the rebellion one hundred years ago. The Irish rebellion of 1798 was a demand of the Roman Catholics and Ulster Presbyterians for political liberties long enjoyed by the Irish Protestants. More than 100,000 lives arebelieved tohavebeen sacrificed. The cost, including value of property destroyed, has been estimated at more than .£15,000,000.
