LODGE CORINTHIAN 1655, E.C.
The annual meeting of the above Lodge was held last evening in the Masonic Hall, Queen street. There was an exceedingly large attendance of brethren, including a Strong contingent from Auckland.
The main business was the installation of Bro. R. H. Ellis as W.M. for the ensuing year, which ceremony ■was performed by Bro. W. Burton, P.M. Bro. S. Gilbert, D.G.S.W., presented the working tools in the third degree, Bro. J: P. Clark, D.G.S. of E.C., those of the second degree* and Bro. J. F. Colegrove, W.M. of Lodge Prince of Wales 1338, E.C., those of the first degree. The W.M. then invested his officers as follows :—I.P.M., Bro. E. Cartwright; S. W., Bro. F. B. Allen ; J.W., Bro. W. S. Grundy; Chaplain, Bro. Dr. O'Callaghan ; Treasurer, Bro. L. Melhose; Secretary, Bro. W. H. Newton; D. of C, Bro. A. Kummert; Organist, Bro. M. Trewhella; S.D., Bro. G. G. Smith ; J. 1?., Bro. H. Lowe; S.S., Bro. M. Paul; J.S., Bro. J. Jobe ; 1.G., Bro J. Jordan ; Tyler, Bro. W. C. Hastings. The address to the W.M. was given by the Installing Master, and to the Wardens and Brethren by D.G.S. Clark. At the conclusion of the ceremony Bro. Ellis and the Lodge were heartily congratulated by various visiting brethren.
The visitors from Auckland included a most efficient orchestra under the conductorship of Bro. J. Armstrong, D.G.D. of C, which added greatly to the beauty of the impressive Masonic service, and to the enjoyment of the brethren when they adjourned from labor to refreshment.
• The Lodge • having been closed in due form, the brethren adjourned to the Academy of Music, where a cold collation was spread in Host Woodward's best style. The Chair was occupied by the newly installed W.M., who was supported by Bro. Clark, D.G.S., and Bro. Cartwright, I.P.M.
The usual toasts were duly proposed and honored, and interspersed were the following musical items :—Three selections by the orclestra, solos by Bros. Woodward, Jordan, Piggott, Kyd, and others, and a cornet solo by Bro. Reynolds.
In replying to the toast of District Grand Lodge, D G.S. Bro. Clark made special mention of the absence of D.G.M. Bro. McMillan, who was unfortunately laid up by a severe attack of bronchitis.
