Auckland, March 28. DEATH OF A MAORI OENTENAEIAW. The Maori chief Hake Wangawanga died at Pehaweia, aged one hundred years. He celebrated his centenary birthday last Christmas. He remembered Heke'e raids perfectly. DEATH AT THE HOSPITAL. E. P, Donnelly, who last week slipped on the asphalt and injured his skull, died at the Hospital this morning. There will probably be an inquest. He was never able to give any account of the affair, but a woman, it is undersood, saw the accident. THE D.S. CO's FIRE. An inquiry into the fire which destroyed the D.S. Coy's block is proceeding and is likely to last several I days. Mr Beechan, manager of the clothing depaitment, deposed that he left a few minutes before 10 o'clock and left two assistants taking stock, He was examined closely as to smoking on the premisns and said he did not smoke" and believed his assistants were non-smokers. A CHEAP JACK FINED. At the Police Court Chas. Bloomfield, a cheap Jack, was fined 5s and costs for selling good on Wednesday halfboliday,
