Nothing has occurred during the * week to relieve the dull monotony prevailing on 'Change, and the volume of business transacted has been but i email. Shares in Thames mines, with : the exception of Monowai and Puru (Consolidated, show a 1 declininc ten- i dency. Mono'wais opened somewhat weak, with, sellers, 3s 6d, buyers 3s. towards ihe end of the week, however, a demand set in, and business was , doke at 3s 6d, at which price morel could have been placed, but there were no quoted sellers at the close.' Permanent crushing operations will \ t be commenced as soon as water for motive power is available. Kuranui-1 Caledonians had sellers at 2s Id, and buyers at Is lid. May Queen-' Haurakis were a shade easier, being ; offered at 6s, the best buyer being at, 5s 9d. Moanataiaris were done at 7s, | closing without buyers, and sellers at! 7s 6d. New Alburnias eased after transfers at 3s 6d, sellers being willing to accept 3s 6d, while 3s was the best bid. Tararu Creek, which have been neglected for some time past, wereinquired for at B£d, but sellers asked Is 3d. Victorias had steady buyers at B£d, while sellers would not part below 10£ d. Sheridans (paid up) were weaker, selling from 8d to 6d, 1 and closing with sellers 7d, and no buyers. The Puru Consolidated Oom--1 pany have erected an up-to-date ' battery, and it is expected that crushing will be commenced on the ore stored in the hoppers in three or > four weeks', time. These shares have been in the ascendant, rising from 2s . Id to 2s 4d, at which price there were i firm buyers, no shares being offered at the close. May Queen Extendeds were wanted at 2£d, sellers asking i 3£d. Waiotahis had sellers at 355, Kaisers (paid up) at 2d, and Kuranuis at 6d, but no buyers appeared. In -, Barriers no transactions were rei corded. For Gold and Silvers 2s 2d i was offered, but sellers held for 3s. ; Reefs (paid up) were on sale at 2s 6d, and lonas at 3d, without buyers. Euaotunu may be described as dead t bo far as the market is concerned. For ; Kapai-Vermonts Is could have been ' obtained, sellers asking 2s. Waitaiaa had sellers at 2s. The Waihi district has claimed most attention in the Upper Thames list. The important step taken by the Waihi Company in increasing its crushing power from 90 head to 190 stampers has given uni--1 versa! satisfaction, and the returns ' from this mine in future are expected to, show a considerable increase. Buyers of the new issue have advanced from 80s, until business was done at 90s, the closing prices being • sellers 955, buyers 87s 6d. An ad- ' vance was also made in Waihi Grand 1 Junctions, sellers springing from 15a > to 17s, but holders refused to quote. • Waihi Consols have been largely > dealt in from 3£d to 3d, with sellers i at 3-|d and buyers at 3d. Waihi i Extendeds were exchanged at 4d, sellers 6d, buyers 3£d, and Waihi ' Souths at 3d, with sellers 3|d, ■ buyers 3d. Business was done ' in Waihi Silvertons from 4s 6d to 4s 9d, closing with sellers at 5s 2d and buyers at 4s 6d. High grade ore is still coming to hand from both the No 1 and Kiln levels, at the Waitekauri miue, and it is stated a considerable block some 700 feet in extent has been opened up in the latter level. Shares have been exchanged at 45a 6d, with steady buyers at 445, and no selling quotation. Alphas were done at 2s, after which mort< were offered at 2s id. An inquiry for Grace Darlings at Is 9d took place during the earlier part of the week, but died away, and this stock closed without buyers and sellers at 2s. Talismans are being quietly picked up, sales taking place at 9s 6d, at which figure ; more could be placed, sellers holding for 10s. Woodstocks had firm buyers at 20s 6d, but sellers could not be induced to quit lower than 22s Gd. Komata Reefs eased to sellers 7s 6d, buyers 7s. Hit or Miss were dealt in at 6d, Teutonic at 2£d, and Albert at 3£d. Imperials had sellers at Gd and buyers at 3d, Portseas sellers at lOd and'buyers at. 7d, and Rising Suns sellers at 6d and buyers at 3d. There were sellers of- Crowns, Ohinemuri Syndicates, Waihi Consolidateds, Waitekauri Unions, Waitekauri Uniteds, Broken Hills, Royal Standards, and Wentwdrths, but no buyers. Coromandels have been quiet, j Bunker's Hills had a transaction at Is Id, closing with sellers at Is 2d and buyers 18. Cuirassiers were dealt in from l£d to 2d, andFour-in-Hands sd. Golden Leads had free sales from 2£d to 3d, the latter figure being offered for more at the close, sellers holding for 3^-d. Welcome Finds declined, sellers offering to quit at 4d. Hauraki Norths paid up) were wanted at' 6d, and Hauraki Associateds at sd. Coro- ] mandel Freeholds, Haurakis, Hauraki Souths, Kapangas, New Golcondas, Progress Castle Rocks, and Tokatea Consols failed to find buyers. A fair demand has existed for investment stocks, but transactions have been very J limited. Another advance has been recorded in New Zealand and River Plates, buyers offering 18s 6d, but sellers would not quit under 19s, Buyers of, National Banks offered 45s fed without; inducing business, sellers asking 475. New Zealand Insurance were inquired for at 655, with sellers 675, while National Insurance were better, 15s 6d being on offer, sellers holding for 16s. South British had sellers at 50s, and buyers at 48s. Standard were wanted at lis Bd, sellers advancing to 12s 6d, while 23s for New Zealand Accident failed to elict a selling quotation. Gisbortie Gas were done at 40s 6d, with further bnyers at 40s, but no sellers. Thames Gas had steady buyers at 40s, but the shares are firmly held, and no sellers appeared. Auckland Gas (old) were offered at £ 15, and | the new issue at £11. 5s ; for the latter \ £11 was offered. A. McNeill and Party, who recently obtained 9Jozs from a small crashing of ore obtained from the reef formation met with at the Wh.au Whan, near Kuaotunu, are preparing to have another 10 tons treated.

HAURAKI NORTH

Operations have been resumed in the Hauraki North mine, a start having been made with the chamber for the new level, which will gi?e from 60ft to 70ft of backs. Good results are expected.

GOLDEN LEAD.

A machine site of four acres in extent and a water race hare been pegged out at Coromandel on behalf of the Golden Lead Company.

FOUR-IN-HAND. The Four-in-Hand Company has applied for a water race and machine site.

BARRIER EEEPS. The tender of Holland party, at 25s per foot, has been accepted for driving 150 ft in the low level crosscut at the Barrier Reefs mine. Work will be commenced immediately.
