Thb annual harvest festival was held at St Paul's Churoh, Pa roa, oo Sunday last, being the fourth Sunday in Lent. The churoh was decorated with fruit, vegetables, grain, and flowers The services throughout the day were conducted by the Vicar, the Rev, W. H. WiJeon, assisted by Mr L. 0. Paget. Holy Commubion was celebrated at 8 a.m., and after morning prayer, and evensong was held at 7 p.m. In the morning there was a fair congregation, and the Vicar gave an appropriate sermon. In the evening the church was crowded, the Vioar gave a splendid sermon, taking as his text Mat 13ch. 39v., " The harvest is the end of the world, the reapers are the angels." In the course of his evidence the defend mt said the home had a hard mouth, and was very anxious to be on the gjllop. He had one or two drinks with his friends before leaving Shortland, but was sober. Hore Ta Rumanui, the owner of the horse, also gave evidenoe, after which the Bench said that undoubtedly the defendant had ridden furiously, and imposed a fine of 10s and costs 28s.
