The City Schools Committee last evening father considered the complaint made by Mr Carr concerning, ths flogging of his daughter by a teacher at Boresford Street School. It was eventually decided " tha the Com-1 mittee is of opinion that the Btrokej said to have been administered to Selina May Carr by Miss Mcllhone did not cause the injuries alleged." Constable McHveney last evening arrested a man. named Robert Collier en a charge of stealing clothes belonging to one of the crew of the s.s. Waiotahi. It is alleged that Collier' entered the forecastle of the Waiotahi during Sunday night, while the crew were sleeping. He appropriated the good clothes of a seaman, leaving his own complete inferior outfit in ex-
change. A number of fricuds of Captain C. E. Hood assembled ou board the Augliau yesterday afternoon, and presented him with au illuminated address aa a mark of o?teera in which lie is held by them. Mr A j*3. Russdl, manager of tho South British Insurance Company, presented the address, which, was signed by thirty-two citizens.
