The Vitriol Throwing Case.

Auckland, March 16,

The charge against Thomas Carroll of throwing vitriol at Robert R. Jewell at Paeroa, with intent to do bodily injury was resumed at the Supreme Court to-day. The jury retired about one o'clock, but up to a late hour this afternoon had not been able to agree as to the verdict. It is probable the jury will be locked up all night. Later.

The jury, Bfter sitting for a considerable time, told his Honor they I were unable to come to a verdict. rI he Judge gave the jury till half-past 9. At the expiration of that time they were again summoned. The foreman said there was no prospect of agreeing to a verdict. His Honor said he was very sorry he was not able to discharge them, but should have to lock them up for the night.

March 17. Resuming this morning, the foreman said the jury could not agree, and they were discharged. A fresh jury will be empannelled to-morrow.
