Success of a Thamesite.
The following, which refers to aiffcold Thamesite. is taken from the "Chemist and Druggist of Australasia":—"Air WiJ'iam Short (biother of Messrs G. and E. Short, of Thames and Paeroa), who was recently elected to the post of Examiner tothePlwriracv Board, vacated by Mr Melhuish, is a New Zealander by birth and early training- ITe was born at Auckland in 18C2, and when lie had finished liis ordinary schooling was apprenticed in 1876 to Mr Geo. Denby,Thames, N.Z., with whom he remained for six years. After filling engagements at Thames and Auckland he came to Sydney, arriving in January, 1885. Shortly after arrival he was engaged by the late Mr F. C. Turner, of Oxford street, and Mas with him up to the latter's demise. Then he wns engaged as branch manager to tar W. Parker, of Balmain, remaining with him three and a-lialf
years ; during the latter portion of this time he was a student at the College of Pharmacy, Phillip street, under the directorship of Mr E. Quaylc. He won several prizes at Mr Quayle's class cxnininationsduring terms at the college. Passed first and final in Sep. tember, 1888, before Messrs Bozon. Mayne, and Melhuish. In January, 1830, he bought the business ?f Mr AY. F. Caunt, at Camperdown, and has remodelled the premises, enlarging them considerably and making them more elegant. He was first elected a mem-
ber of the Pharmaceutical Council on the death of Mr N.B Pollard in March, 1894. In his student days his tutor, Mr Quayle, thought niuch of him and his ability, and Ins election r.s Examiner fulfils his mtistors prophecy. Mr Short has always displayed great interest and activity in every thing affecting the trade. He is foremost in balls and picnics, and his spare time hobby is that of camping out, fishing, shooting, Ac. Mr Short is the first graduate of the Sydney College of Pharmacy to gain the distinction of Examiner.
