THE NAPIER RACES.

Napier, March 15.

Serviceable work was registered at the Hastings course this morning in view of the Cup meeting on Wednesday. St. Conon and Bijou covered five furlongs in good style, the colt having the best gallop. New Forest, Day Star, Lotion and Haria did the gallop of the morning, being sent a mile and a quarter, New For*e3t showing great form. He led the othei-s and finished well, Lotion and Haria close wp, Day Star three lengths away. Brennan and Dol'erece put in half a mile, both going well, and Multiform looking the picture of health trotted and cantered. Golden Plover went a couple of rounds at a strong hr.lf pace moving nicely, while Forest Rose and Popgun did the circuit at top. Nightingale did six furlongs on the grass acquitting herself satisfactorily, and Huna did twice round, and Solus a fair working gallop. Picklock slipped over five furlongs in nice style, Pinrose and Libretto were associated at half pace work, doing three circuits in good style finishing strongly. The Plug and Primula went a couple of rounds at half pace, and The Shrew covered a brace of circuits, the last at top, finishing well. Torpiua was sent once round at a strong gait, and Rhino did

a round at half pace. Petroline, Prince Charlie, Stray Bird, Tiritca, Tally-Ho, Toriki and Tire did steady work. The weather is very promising. There is practically no betting on the <3up. The following horses- are scratched for all engagements at the Jockey Club's Meeting :—Sfc, Paul, Moonraker and St. Rowan.
