Wellington News.

Wem-tsoton, March 12,

News was received shortly after the Mataura loft Rio for Wellington that the chief steward had committed suicide.

A dispute has arisen between the Tailors' Union and the firm of King and Muir over the classification of articles , paid for by piece work and according to the log. The matter will be referred to the Cenciliatiou Court.

Stone, Son and Co., publishers of the well-known directory, sued for an injupctkm against *>he publishers of flaggen's shilling directory on the ground that they copied a large part from plaintiff's publication. The latter is not registered as there is no provision in the colony for registration and it was contended this nullified the copyright. The Chief Justice held that an Order of 1842 gave the copyright, to the first publisher of any periodical and there could be copyright in a directory. The injunction was granted. -^- ___
