Borough Council.
The fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening, at which His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Scott, Wood, Poulgjain, Davey, AVhitehead, Burch, Foy, and Camer were present. — The matter of the removal of metal at the mouth of the Karaka creek occupied some attention, and it was pointed out that although Mr Hawkes had got on well with his present contract there was a mass of
material brought down by the last fresh, and it would bo necessary for protective purposes to make a further clearance. It was therefore resolved that the contractor be empowered to remove another 1000 loads of metal at his present coucracb price.—Mr Burkes nightsoil eortract was renewed for two years.—Resolved that P. Harris be permitted to work out hi* ro.tes; that the Foreman of Works spread 20 loads of gravel in Clarence street as soon as work in hand will allow ; and that if the necessary material is in stock the Foreman of Works renew th? service pipe to the factory of Messrs Menzies and Co. —An application from Mr Crawford to have the footpath in front of his residence in Queen-street asphalted was referred to the General Purposes Committee, along with an offer from Mr T. Doyle to erect street signs at £1 10s per dozen—a modification of an offer previously made.—The question of the low water pressure iv Mary street was also brought up, the Turncock having reported that it was principally due to a mixture of three and four inch pipes (practically a three inch pipe supply) that the service was unsatisfactory. To obviate the trouble he suggested that the smaller size be substituted for four inch pipes. If it was uot too expensive, however, six inch pipes would give an adequate and quite satisfactory supply. This matter was also referred to the General Purposes Committee. -The usual official reports were received and adopted.
