MINING NEWS.
(By Our Special Reporter.)
VICTORIA.
The manager (Mr Agaew) wired today: "Crushed i4O load* of quartz for a yield of 178ozs retorted gold."
CROWN ROYAL (Tapu.) According to the bearing of the Royal reef, the manager is of the opinion that he will hare to oxtend the crosscat a much further distance than was at first anticipated. The countiyisof a good description, and the crosscut is steadily advancing.
PURIRI G.M. CO. (?raißi) The general development of this mine is stoadily proceeding. A start has been made to drive upon a new leader rocontly discovered in the mine, but at present its value and general character has not been determined. The drivo in operation for some time past upon the course of the No. 2 reef has been extended a total distance of 186 feet. The ore still continues to produce a fair prospect of gold, and a splendid class of country is being entered upon. Although nothing of a sensationally rich character has been so far met with in this quartz body it has nevertheless proved to be a lode of a very average grade, and at any time there is a possibility of the work leading up to a heavy deposit of gold.
