Auckland, March 10. CHAMBER OF MINES.

At a meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Mines the question of shareholders forfeiting their shares for calls so as to purchase them cheaper at auction was considered, and it was decided to approach the Government asking that the law be amended during next session, so that forfeited shares should be registered in the name of the manager of the company, and until issued be the property of the company. Attention was also drawn to the excessive reut now charged for undeveloped gold mining properties, and it was decided to request the Government to reduce the rent on such for the first three years to as per acre. YOUNG NEW ZEALAND. The Young New Zealand Company has completed a trial crushing of 1 ton of ore at Fraser and Sons' plant for 7ozs 16dwts bullion, valued at £18 14s.

Three independent assays from the reef, which is 2Mb wide, from the Great Barrier Gold and Silver Mine have been made. One by J. Kitchener Wilson gave a total of £82 12s 4d ; the second, by H. A. Dobson, gave a total of £56 5s Id; and the third, by Eat j en, gave gold £54 16s, and silver £12 0s 4d. A further 10 tons has been shipped Home for treatment at Swansea or tfiswhere.
