A telegram from Now Plymouth states that the difficulties in regard to the flow of petroleum have been overcome, two hundred gallons of oil being obtained yesterday. The Mayr.r (Mr T. The annual Premier Picnic of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, which took place on Saturday at Lake Takapuna, was a monster gathering, it being estimated that over 12,000 people were present. Some of the residents at Wairongomai | are complaining of the action of the Governors of the Thames High School in raising the price of garden sitea from ten shillings to one pound per year. Colonel Pole-Penton, commandant of the •New Zealand forces waa expected at the Ihames to-day, but 1 c wired LieutenantCommander Potts of the Navals last evening that he would be unable to come until limrsday for which reas»n the parade of the corps, called for this evening, has been postP°S,£ d until Thursday evening at 7 o'clock. -The Te Aroha Rifles have arranged to fire a match with the Thames Navals on the Jith March. The former's team will be chosen from the following:—Capt. Cochrane, Sergeants Scott and Hanby, Corps. Stanley andl Maingay, Vols. Forest, Evans, Salmon, McKee, Hirst, Comes, Mathews, Whitten. jJevey. The s.s. Ohinemuri, which arrived here yesterday morning, brought 120 casks of cement to be used in the foundation work at the Thames-Hauraki mine. The Waiotahi last evening had on board 369 casks of cement and 15 tons of machinery consigned to Messrs Price Bros, and to be used in connection with their new boiler shop. Included in the fifteen tons is a hydraulic hammer weighing 8 tons 15ewt, and two bolts of one ton weight each. The hammer will be used in connection with Messrs Priced new boiler tower, which is now receiving its wooden frame-work.
