Mr A. N. Wilkieson, M.A., of the WeHingtoa College stafi, has received news from England that he has passed the second section of the L.L.B. degree, and Mr Thomas Bredie, of the same institution, has passed the first section of the B.A. degres. Both gentlemen are natives of the colony, aud were educated at the Otago University, It is unlikely another Conference will take place between the shipowners and the Federated Seamen's Union for the settlement of the wages dispute on the lines of the Concilation Board's a'vard. The seamen are strongly disinclined to give way on the clause objected to by the shipowners, as they claim that tre concessions already inatfe are far below those to which they are entitled. No magisterial enquiry will be held into the-Stranding of the Aorere at Patea.

The second and third rings of the flue collapsed through over-heating, but the «uds of the boiler shell and the remainder of the flu« was in first c^ass order. No decision will be couie to uutil the Premier returns as to whether the Government ehould arrange for a New Zealand court at the Brisbane exhibition. :
