Auckland, March 8
Mr Justice Connolly and Judge Wilson have arrived here from south.
The flagship Orlando, with Admiral Bridge, sailed for Sydney this morning. The Government have granted Sergeants Gamble and McMahon, who were retired in connection with thej South episode, one year's pay each as compensation. C. Hartridge and Capt. Argall left for Sydney to-day. Mr Hartridge in j returning to England and Capt. Argall is on a visit of inspection to mining properties in New South "Wales.
The attention of the Chamber of Mines has been directed to the practice indulged in by several shareholders lately, of forfeiting their shares for calls, with a view to purchasing them cheaper at auction. The Chamber will consider the question at an early date.
