CRICKET.

Saturday's matches were played under favourable conditions, and in the presence of more than the usual number of spectators. The senior contest, however, proved very one-sided, for United batting three men short only made 16. Carter placed a bowling feat to his credit by taking 5 wickets for 10 runs, and has seldom been seen to greater advantage with the ball, making it break both ways and mixing his pace very judiciously. Tararu was two men short, the absentees being Darrow and Reilly, but Harper made 26 by hard hitting, and Wiggins played a good innings for a like number of runs. Clarke's ten consisted entirely of " singles," and he was caught very simply at short leg. Siddall also got into double figures,! and was last man out when, every plavex' having scored, the board showed ! 92-18—11. The losers tried no less ! than six bowlers, of whom Askenbeck ' w-vs most successful. The scores!

The first game to claim attention was th« unfinished match United v. High School, which was not begun until it was past the time for'beginning. the fixture for the day. Hethenngton and Robinson opened for High School, and commenced the task of scoring the 49 runs required to win. Hetherington, by some big hitting, got well into double figures, and Robinson scored six when he retired caught by. Flavell off Lawson, Clark followed,- arid was bowled by Flavell after adding a few run?, Garcia taking his place. This partnership brought the total to within 10 runs of the required number, and with two men still to bat, things were looking exceedingly well fir High School when Garcia very foolishly ran himself out. Hetheringfon retired clean bowled by Flavell, and the task fell upon Hammond and Laurie, The former was run cut when only three more runs were required, and as the eleventh man was absent through sickness, a match which seemed quite in the hands of the batting team, was lost entirely through bad judgment, United v. Tabaru, Batting first Tararu put up the respectable score of 73, every mail scoring but Lynch, who was caught off a hit which he meant should have gone for 3at least; The chief contrr utots ware Wilkinson, whose 17 included a hit clean over the willows into the adjoining gardens tor 6, Brown 11, Wilson 10, and Griffiths 9.
