MINING NEWS.

(By Our Special Reportor.)

LINCOLN (Kabaka).

Driving westward upon the course of Nos. 1 and 2 reefs from the main 1 crosscut is being vigorously carried on. Both the quartz bodies bear a very promising appearance, the oro being thickly interspersed with silicious matter, and it also contains favorable minerals for gold. The country Mr Wella (the manager) is very favorably impressed with, and by continuing the present works ahead there is every likelihood of a payable class of ore being obtained. In the event of a payable run of gold being met with the same lodes can be very economically developed at much lower levels, where there is a certainty of securing backs to a height of 120 ft if necessary. I might mention that since starting to drive upon the lodes in question a distance of 20ft has been reached upon their respective bearings. KURUNUI-CALEDONIAN. The various works in and about this mine are being vigorously advanced. The whole of the quartz broken out from Darby's and the crossreef, and which had to remain about the works pending the repairs which were in progress in the shaft, has been raised to the surface, thus enabling the footwall section of the lode, which was left standing, to be now broken out. This portion of the reef shows colors of gold, and the full width of the quartz body at this point of development would measure between 4 to sft in thickness. The whole of this is being raised as general crushing material, and will be forwarded on to the company's mill, which should be in readiness to commence crushing in abont a fortnight from now. The advancement of the drive west is being energetically carried on, but the last few feet of driving finds the lode somewhat divided into strings of quartz intermixed with the country rock, Kelly's crosscut is also in steady operation, but there is nothing of a startling nature to chronicle from here.
