The Thames Licensing Committee election will probably be ftxerl to take place on the 31st inst, A contract is in hand for largely extending the Wharf at the Northern Steamship Company's hndirtfr «t the Junction, Paeroa. The contract is at the expense of the County. The Pollard Company open here for a season of probably -seven nights on the 20th instant. The Burns Club re-opened last evening, when a fair number of members met and parsed a very pleasant evening. A programme of songs and dances was gone : through, and at the conclusion " Auld Lang Syne " was heartily sung. The p.s. Terranora made a trip round the harbour last evening, leaving the Goods' Wharf at 7.30 o'clock with a number of passengers. The Naval Band was on board, »nd a very pleasant outing resulted, the • vessel berthing again at about ten o'clock, We omitted to mention in our report of the public farewell tc Mr H. Eyre Kenny, ««te S.M. and Wardenfor this district, which took place yesterday afternoop, the name of Mr A. G. Smith, local manager of the Bank of New Zealand, who was amongst those present. Miss Constance Hatherly, the young lad musician, who is visiting the Thaine3 on Saturday in connection with the Ovide Musin's concert, succeeded, the other day, >'& establishing a record for the Wangauui baths for plunge diving. She dived nine inches further than A. McKellar, who won the plunge at the swimming sports the pre"ousweek, a gentleman having offered a gold »Bedal to any member of the Ladies' Swim««"»g Club who could beat Mr McKellar's &ve-40ft 3in. Miss Hatherley, m the pre. sence of a number of Indies, plunged 42ft and, thus appropriated the medal. Miss Hatherley was under the water for 53 2-ssec.
