The Turkish gendarmerie at Canea mutinied owing to their pay being in arrears and they threatened to destroy thetown. Marinesfromtheforeignfleets blockaded them in their barracks. The Italian contingent fired and wounded the officers and the commandant received fatal injuries. The gendarmerie thereupon submitted and were placed in irons.

The Cretans have captured Candianas.

Officers from the foreign fleets have been sent to Selino to rescue the Moslems, but it is feared the presence of Vassos' troops will result in rendering their position -worse.
