Melbourne, March 2. Australian Cup, 2|miles.— Coil 1, Preston 2, Wait-a-Bit 3, T)a»ien 4. The other starters were: Bloodshot, Be solute, Mischief, O'Trigger, The Officer, Cinderellen, Benedict, *nd Rosella On the barrier rising O'Trigger, Damien, Cinderellen, Benedict, and Wait-a-Bit were the quickest away, Bloodshot, Coil, The Officer being the last three. Sweeping down to the straight O'Trigger was in command followed by Damien, Rosella, Preston, Wait-a-Bit, with Bloodshot, Coil, and The Officer still in the rear. Coming to the stand. Damien shot to the front, and drawing out for six lengths, led up the river straight at the mile post, Mischief running second to D^mien. followed by O'Trigger and Rosella. Whilst at the six furlong post, Coil and The Officer were observable threading their way through the field from the extreme rear. Entering the home run, Damien still held the pride of place, the nearest attending him being Benedict, behind whom came Wait-a--bit The Officer, and Rosella. When fairly in the straight Coil shot up, The Officer falling back, and Preston, who appeared to be interfered with while making his run, also threatened danger, At the distance, the order was Damien, Wait-a-Bib, Rosella, and Coil, but at the half-distance Coil was leading by two lengths, while Preston came with a tremendous run. Great though the effort was he failed to get up in time, Coil struggling home by a long neck from Preston, with Wait-a-Bit four lengths away third, half a length in advance of Damien. Then came the following in order : Benedict, Rosella, Mischief, The Officer, Bloodshot, Cinderellen, Resolute, and O'Trigger. Time, 4min 4^secs.
