CHARITABLE AID BOARD

Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held last Monday. Present: Messrs Goutts (Chairman), JR-adford, McFarlane, Foy, and Colebrooke. The minutes were read and confirmed.

Offer to Adopt.—Mrs M. A, Herd, Ellerslie Villa, Great North Road, Auckland, wrote offering to adopt Hilda Dix, aged 3 years, at present being; maintained in tho Parnell Orphan Home at the Board's expens".-The Se3retary explained that Mrs Dix would not give her consent to the arrangement, but he would try further nogotations in the matter.

Ladies' Benevolent Society.—Th§ Hauraki Ladies' Benevolent Society presented their statement of accounts for the quarter ending June 20th, which showed the total expenditure in relief, etc,, to be £45 5s 7d.—Referred to General Purposes Committee. Treasueek's Statement.—The Treasurer's Statement was as follows :—Receipts : Public Trustee re estate of N. Anderson, £2 18s 6d; Government subsidy, £134- Is 9d ; Coromandel Connty Council, £68 lls; Ohinemuri County Council, £38 17s ; total, £244 8s 3d. Exrenditure: Dr balance at bank July Bth, £102 10s 8d; accounts paid as per vouchers attached. £67 7s 9ci ; balance at bank, £74 9s lOd ; total, £244 8s 3d. —Received.

Heath's Case.—-A letter was read from the Kauri Timber Co. stating that they had made such arrangements ss to preclude the possibility of Mr A. E. Heath requiring further assistance daring his convalescence.—Received. Old Men's and Women's Home.—The Secretary reported : —

"W. Mason and wife were admitted to the Home on July 12th, their respective ages are 78 and 72. Eobert Young was dis-chargecl-on his own account on the 7th inst. The number of inmates at the Home is 28 males and 3 females, making 31 in all. Mr Eaclford and I, to whom you entrusted the task of laying out the grounds, have decided that the portion in front of the buildings should be devoted to an orchard, and with this object in view we.have had as many fruit trees planted as the circumstances would permit. Several ladies and gentlemen visited the Home on Arbor Day and planted a number of trees. In accordance with your request the Borough Council haye diverted the flood water off the property, and have made such other improvements in the street that merit the name of ; a public benefit. The Board and the Tararu residents are, I consider, under a considerable obligation to the Council m this matter.

—Referring to the last matter in tie report the Chairman said that the Conncil had made an excellent job of the work, and had thereby much improved the Board's property.—Received. Reeief. —The Relieving Officer submitted the following report:—

" Rations to the value of £37 15s lid have been issued at Thames during the past four weeks against <£33 12s 6d issued during the previous month, the increase being caused by thehigher rate of contract price for rations for the current yeai-j which commenced on July Ist. On the present average issue of rations the* increased price over last year will amount to about £60 At Coromandel the cost of rations for July was £6 7s 4d, against £5 19s 6d issued in June. At Ohinemuri the cost of rations for the quarter was £17 10s 5d."

—Received. Gbnekal Pukposes Committee.—The Gereral Purposes Committee reported as follows:—

"Your General Purposes Committee beg to report that since the last meeting of the Board, the following amounts have been received :—Coromandel County Council, £68 lls Od; Ohinemuri County Council, £38 17s Od government subsidy, £134259 d. Mr Kenny, Deputy Returning Officer for the Ohinemuri district, tendered his resignation as from July Ist. As Mr Kenny desired to be retired from the duties at once your Committee reluctantly accepted his resignation, and appointed Mr J. S. Ingram temporarily to the position, and they now recommend that Mr Ingrain's appointment be made permanent. The Ohinemuri County Council recommend the appointment of Mr Ingram. The accounts for supplies, services, and salaries for the month of July having been examined and found correct, your Committee recommend that they be passed for payment." —Received and adopted Ib was decided to hold the next meeting at 4 p.m. on tho usual date. Other business of a routine nature was transacted, and the meeting terminated
