London, June 13. The M.C.C. has subscribed 200 guineas to the Grace national fund. Fearing the opposition of the Irish party the Government has withdrawn the vote for the Cromwell statue, which ifc was proposed to erect outside Westminster Abbey. ■/> The new Chinese loan will be Ussuedin Paris on the 27th. Berlin, June 18. The French and Russian squadrons met in the Baltic and entered Kiel together. Paris, June 18. The Czar's embassy, when presenting President Faure with the order of St. Andrew, referred to the happy relations existing between France and Russia, but made no allusion to an alliance. £• Sydney, June 18. *"'■ In the Legislative Assembly the Premier announced that he was officially informed of the appointment of Viscount Hampden as Governor and he believed he was a good man. The report on the Customs Duties Bill has been adopted. The debate on the second reading of the Land Tax Bill is proceeding. j£ Charles Seymour Allen has recovered £1,000 damages against Daniel Tehane Willis, as proprietor and publisher of the paper Truth, for a libel contained in an article published in that journal. It appears Allen married a daughter of Mr Perkins, member of the Legislative Council of Queensland, and shortly afterwards visited England. An article in the Truth alleged that an English swell had married a Brisbane society lady, had stolen her jewels, and deserted her. The article in questiorf did not mention any names, but the remarks were generally recognised by Allen's friends as referring to him, though the 'charge was baseless.
