PIIOUEEDJNGS,

Never perhaps in the history of the Thames has such widespread interest been evinced in the annual meeting of the Commissioners of the Thames Licensing districb than that displayed at the meeting to-day, which commenced at noon. Ihe Courthouse was packed.

The Commissioners present were — H. Eyre Kenny, Esq , S.M. (Chairman), Messrs Whitehead, Dceble, Jones, Home, McDonnell, Koefoed, Hornibvook, and Capt. Swindley. Hergt. Gillies was present on behalf of the police. MOTION OF CONDOLENCE.

Previous to the commencement of the proceedings the Chairman referred in feeling terms to the recent death of ifiv Thos. Hammond, whom he personally esteemed' because of his fairness, honesty of purpose, and fearlessness. The Chairman concluded by stating that Capt, Swindley had been appointed to the vacancy.—Mr Deeble fully concurred and moved" : " That a motion of condo- ! lence be forwarded to Mrs Hammond." —This was carried unanimously.
