WELLINGrON.-Thia day.
The Government have ordered three thousand more Martini-Henri; rifles; which will probably arrive in three of four months. The whole of ths defence forces will theu be armed with the same weapons.
Plans have been approved and arrangements made for the construction of a cable steamer in London at a cost of £16,000. It will be on Bioiilar lines to the s.s. Wainui, with a draft of ■ 1 Oft light arid 13 loae'ei. It will arrive here in about twelve months. ;
CHRISTCHURCH.—This day. The New Btuuton Tramway Op.
has declared a dividend oi 8 per cent.
