The Town Clerk notifies that water may be used for other than domestic purposes between the hoars of 7 o'clock this evening and 9 o'clock to-morrow night. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Committee of the School of Mines was held' last evening, there being present—Messrs J. H. Smith, Vice-President (in the chair), Bull, Dunlop, Hansen, and Watson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the inwards and outwards correspondence read and dealt with. A communi. cation was received from the Thames County Council stating that the valve connecting the School main with the County's main had been shut down, and would remain so until all the connections made by the Borough had been cutoff; also that the placing of ■ a valve between the School's main and the Borough 9-in. main in Albert street> instead of severing the connection.altogether, was unsatisfactory. After discussion it was decided to request the Borough Council to carry out their promise to sever all the connections with the School main, the same to be taken in hand at once. The reports of the examiners in the recent annual examinations were read. On the motion of Mr Bull, seconded by Mr Dunlop, it was resolved to convey a vote of thanks to Messrs Park and Hollis for their labors. It was also resolved to issue certificates to the successful students in accordance with the recommendations of the examiners. The President and Secretary were authorised to draw up the annual report for the meeting of subscribers to be held next month. The report of the interview that the Committee had with the Hon. Mr Cadman was considered to be very satisfactory, the Committee feeling confident that Mr Cadman would do bis utmost to have the School placed in the position that it deserved to be. After passing the usual monthly accounts the meeting adjourned. We would draw the attention of employers of labor to the advertisement in another column from Mr E. Tregear, Chief Inspector of the Bureau of Industries, reminding them that the Factories Act, 1891, came into operation on the Ist inst., and that fees noted in schedule to the Act have to be paid before the Slat inst. The requisite forms' may be ob= tniaed from Conatable Stapleton, th 6 Inspector for the Thames, while copieo of the Act are on sale at all booksellers, or may be procured (post free) from the Government printer at Wellington. The matter is one which requires the attention of employers.
