Bank of Van Dieman's Land Failure.
COMMERCIAL BANK DEFENDED.
STARTLING REVELATIONS EXPECTED.
[Pbb Pbess Association .1
Kobabt, This day,
At a meeting of the Commercial Bank the Chairman defended that institution from the implication of having been concerned in a conspiracy to ruin the Bank of Van Dieman'e Land. He said that if the Bank could have been saved they would have done so, but the inspection of the acoounts prior. 'to suspension disclosed revelations that had 'never in their wildest dreams been anticipated, and there was no course but to advise the closing of the institution.
The statement has caused a sensation, as it places a totally different aspect to that set forth by the manager of the Bank of Van Dieman's Land.
