ACCIDENT AT WAIOMO.
A serious accident happened at Waiomo this afternoon to a man named Alexander Eklund, who resides in Baillie street. It appears that he waa engaged with some others in pit-sawing for the Parequefc Co., and it became necessary to shift a large log into the pit. Eklund was assisting in this work by means of a "jack," when by some means it slipped, and he was thrown between this log and another one. In falling he clutched the upturned saw with his right hand, with the result that the teeth tore his hand dreadfully. The whole of the fleiby part of the back of bis hand was lifted, and the sinews of the thumb torn out, while the unfortunate man also sustained two or three nasty bruises about the head. He has bad a most miraculous esoape, as had the two locs came together when he was thrown between them, he must inevitably have been crushed to death. The sufferer was conveyed to the Hospital by his mates, where his injuries were attended te by Dr. Williams. It was necessary to put some IS stitches in the wound, but Dr Williams thinks he may possibly be able to save the hand should no unfavorable symptoms set in.
