Thames Harbor Board.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Borough Council Chambers at 2.30 this afternoon, there being present—Messrs Brodie (in the Chair), Wood, Pitkethley, Murdoch; Stoedman, and Bawden. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Lease. —On the motion of Mr Murdoch, seconded by Mr Bawden, it was decided to give Mr Jas. Bickitt a lease of the land near the old Grahamstown wharf, for seven years at £10 per year, and at the expiration of that time an additional lease of seven years at £20 per annum, subject to the usual conditions. i The Fishing Industby —A. petition , was received from a number of fishermen pointiog oat that there was no shelter for their boats, and asking. that the matter should at ones he attended to. It wassuggested that cow, tho railway is iiuiebed passed the Shortland Wharf, that portion o( the mud from the .south-east corner of tho Shortland Wharf towards the Hups Creek should be utilised for the benefit of the fishing industry.—Messrs' Reddish and Targett waited upon the Board re the matter, and after hearing their explanation it was decided to refer the question to the Wharves Committee to report on. Extension of.Goods Whahf.-—Re-garding this work, which is now being carried out by the contractor (Mr Darrow). the Harbormaster reported as follows :—" The contractor for filling in Goods Wharf has made a start with the work, and has carried it along both sides as far as I deem it prudent to allow him to go until sufficient large rough mullock is placed at my disposal to form the batter. There is a difficulty with this portion of the work; I hare verbally instructed him to carry the work no further ahead until the stone re* quired is delivered. His reply is that mullock such as is roquircd is uot to he got, sol asked for a meeting of (he Wharf Committee to view the work and mullock tips, with the contiaetor and myself. Their opinion will be available at the Board's meeting. The Committee hare since been over the wharf extension works and round the mullock tips, and Mr Darrow has promised to put aside tho rough stone so as to give the Board's em* ployes a better chance of getting the batter formed. There is one tip, and tha best of the lot, which your Wht^t £>om-» mittee did not view yesterday. He explained that ho was present at the time of the visit, but did not consider it the duty of the Committee to inspect mullock tips.—Mr Steedman stated that the report bad been drawn up after the inspection of the tips, but Mr Pitkethley was absent.
