At the Police Court tbia forenoon, before Dr Kil'gour and O.VHaaelden, Bfq , J'i.P., William Jamioion was brought up on two charges of theft of handkerchiefs, shawls, and drpeß-piecei, valued in all at £3 16b 6d, the property of two East Indian hawl'era, Abdool Bushed, and Falsilar Jtockiman. The prose. outors, and the prisoner had been staying at the tame hotel, the Empire, where the thefts were committed yesterday morning. Upon giving information to the police the-prisoner was arrested, end the goods found on him. The police stated that there had been one previous conviction against him for larceny but that was so long ago, 11 years, that it might be taken as in his favar. The Bench, upon considering the eace, sentenced the prisoner to three months' imprisonment wtyh hard labor, on each charge, the sentence to run donourrently.

At a meeting of the Committee of the United Football Club, it was decided to accept I the challenge of the Albert Club, Auckland, to play a match at the Parawa* Gardens on the - 21th instant. A challenge was also received from the Waitemata Football Club to play a friendly match at Parawai on the 24th of May, and accepted.

At a meeting of the Auckland Acclimatiia* tion Society held on the 6th inst., some members pointed out that the late proclamation fixing the game season for the Auckland district, departed from the resolution of the Society in providing that cock pheasants alone should be shot. A resolution wr» passed to the effect that the Society were of opinion that the relief afforded by the stoppage of the sale of birds, was for the present sufficient for the Auckland distriot— the circumstances of the North differing from other parts of ftew Zealand, as in many of the sparsely settled districts, the birds are numerous and frequently complained of by settlers. As to the restrictions on shooting hens, it is doubtful whether the settlers would pay much attention, and that they would operate oply against lincense*holders. .
