It is the opinion of an English surgeon of note that men who share the ofteneat shorten their lives by several years. The Arabs also believe that those who wash their faces are marked for an early tomb. The unwashed and unshaven have much to encourage them. A Lawrence, Mass., man ran a needle into his great toe ten years ago, while stubbing around after kindling wood one winter morning, and the steel. has just emerged from one side of bis face. That was the magnet that attracted, the steel. A little girl suffering with the mumps declared that she felt as though a headache had slipped down into her neck. A young lady who was noted for the reckless manner in which she prevaricated was asked why she persisted in telling falsehoods. " Well," said she, " you see, ray modesty prevents me from having anytiring to do with the naked truth."
