A representative of the Sydney Seamen's Union was on board the Zealandia as a passenger, when the Captain discovered he was tampering with the crew. He had him placed under arrest, and did not allow him to land here till immediately before the departure of the vessel, which took place at 6 30 this morning. . The* Defeated Sculling Champion. Hanlan, who was a through passenger by the mailboat, was interviewed by a Star reporter. He stated that ho intended to return to Australia in eighteen months with four American scullers, and will then row a four-oared race against any picked men of the Colonies, two double-scull races and four single . sculling races. While in America he expects to row Wallace Boss, Teemer, and Gandaur. Referring to the match with Beach , lie said although he had been fairly' beaten, he was not as good as he should have been* He rowed the first mile in 6min 25secs, and should have done it in 6mins 6secs/- He had been willing to row, Hearn, but that man's backers could not raise £200 for a match. A match;will shortly take place between Beach and Clifford. ;The latter is a much better sculler than Trickett ever was. Hanlan intends to settle in Sydney. /
