In the Council to-day, after the routine business, Col. Whitmpre gave notice that the Agent General ought to be appointed for a limited term fixable by Parliament.

The Native Affairs Committee reported on the petition re the Kinross case: — " That the Council oaght to allow its officers to appear in any future trial, or institute proceeding itself againat Mr Kinross." ■'■■■

This report was objected to by some hon. members, who asserted it condemned Mr Kinross unheard. There was upon this a discussion lasting over an hour, in which 12 members took parti after which the debate was adjourned on a division by 22 to 10. ? The Council rose at a quarter to five.
