The annual match, Married v. Single, came off on Saturday at Parawa« Gordons. The jjrouud was iv splendid condition. The single men mustered in.full force. And with' two exceptions, tho married were all on the "round. Lawless was chosen captain of the Mnrried end Burgeas of the Single Team. Burgeas won the toss, and decided to send the Married to the wickets, to his own and Bgginton's bowling. Lawless and Murphy started the batting, and commenced making work for the field by scoring rapidly. A change of bowlers at Egginton's end was necessary, when Murphy was ultimately run out oy a well fielded ball by Harrison, baring put fourteen together. Lawless was joined by Cameron, and it looked like as if they would be hard to part, but Maclieau, who took Eggintoa's end as bowler, tried a soft one with the desired effect, as it was played by Cameron back into his hand, Maoro filling the vacancy, but as McLean was evidently on the wicket, "he took Munro'a for a duck's ejrg. Bull, the nest man, was more fortunate, scoring three twos in. succession before McLean caught him. West came next, but Gellion was around .and caught him off'a trimmer from Burgess. Harrison came next, and after changing ends for a single. Lawless was beautifully caught by Baxter at cover paint, bating put 41 together. Grey was bowled by McLean, Lough suffering the name fate from this bowler. Mr Spencer (senr.) took his place, but from want of practice a few balls disposed of him, when MeQullough, the last man who. was enlisted into the army of martyrs, and scored 2 before Harrison was clean bowled by Burgess for the same number — theribbings closing for a total of 79. As will be seen by the scores appended j below, and the manner in which the players were disposed of on the married eido, that with practice _ McLean will j ultimately become a very fair bowler; he bats well ako; he has a high delivery, with fair pace and good direction, as many of the players found to their cost. Only a few minutes were lost in altering the positions, when Lawless put Grey and Bull on to bowl to G. Spencer junr.) and Gr. Bur«es«, who very aoon began to let out and make some runs, but G. Spencer in making a drive for a fiver got outside his crease mark, and was stumped by Murphy. Egainton j after one or two balls from Grey tried to j ■core a short one—but Bull was too much | for him, as he fielded the ball sramly— { and was run out. Gellion was clean bowled •] by Bull's third ball. McLean came J next, and the bank officials seemed as if they intended to make a stand and and retrieve lost ground ; but. unfortu- i nately, Burgess was hardly quick enough for one from Bull, and he had to make way for Buttle. The batters were now making runs freely* but by Grey's last ball McLean's leg stump was in trouble. Harrison was scarcely settled down to work when "West caught him at long leg. Beere joined Buttle aud put a good few together before Lawless caught Buttle at point. Baxter after scoring a single was bowled by. Grey. Tregonning was run out, closing the innings when Campbell Bad leoml a single. The detailed scores are as follow*:— j Mabbied.
