MOANATAIRI.

The gold banked on Saturday wti the result of a crushing of about 220 toot of general dirt, and about 3cwt of picked' stone. At the mine the reef in the tunnel cross-cut bears an improved appearance, and hat the appearance of auriferous. quartz. A trial crashing will take place shortly. The. mi"c manager's report is as follows :-— 1 "Tu&nel cross-cut (south) has been ex-' tended nine feet during the.past week through the reef lately intersected. The hanging wall part, fire feet thick, is mil carbonate of lime, with a., mixtures of quartz, and there is a division between this and the quartz reef, which is now cut into four feet. The lode has an appearance of being large and strong, and is, I tiiink, known as the Watotaht Big Keef, or a continuation of the Caledonian reef. Where intersected, there is over 500 feet of perpendicular backs. During the last few U et driven, the stone shows a promising appearance for gold, containing blotches of copper, and well disseminated with mundic. This is now being stacked, and will shortly be tested at the battery. The reef being hard and containing a" large quantity of water, I expect we shall be another week catling through it. A rise has been started on tunnel level on No. 2 reef east of main slide. This lode was formerly driren on .40 feet from south tide of the tunnel, and showed good indications for gold. In the rise the reef looks well, being 2£ feet thick, containing a large quantity of mineral, including antimony. Previous crushings from here gave 3dwts per ton. Intermediate Level. —No. 2 winze sunk; on foot-wall branch of No. 3 reef has broken through to 80 " feet level, and is- between cross-cut and drive on No. 2 reef. 80 Feet Level.— Nothing fresh has been met with in north cross-cut, and about.2s feet more driving will, I think, intersect main slide. All . the stopes and drives are looking very " well, and during the past fortnight we have crushed 220 tous, including 3ewt, picked stone, the yield from wuieh it . 4-l|ozs gold.—l am. &c, Kobt. CoatM."
