Oh the Kinross perj dry case coming' oh ,to-day, Fitzherbert's reply to Mr Bees'; letter was read., Mr Bees asked that the
officers of ihe Legislatire Council be permitted by the Speaker to giVe evidenoe and produce documents in Court. The Speaker declined to grant the authority asked, 1 and quoted May in support cif his action. The. case , was then ; dismissed. Mr -Bees said this confirmed; him in the opinion 'that the House lias no power to j protect ■witnesses frpiri a' charge of perjury. All the documents connected with the case are to be placed in the possession pf> the 8.M., and Mr Bees will present "4 .petitioii to 'both Houses of Parliament, asking that the documents may be handed into Parliament at the Bar of the Houses. 5 s As to the point that appendices are part of the journals of the House, the Court having ruled they were riot, Mr. Bees said the Speaker of the Legislative Council, Mr O'Rorke,. the Attorney-General and Solicitor-General were all of the opinion that the appendices were part of the journals.
The Native Law Suits Bill rejected last session is to be reintroduced this session. A prominent member of the
Legislative Council nays it will pass that chamber immediately.
The New Zealander has reason to believe that the Opposition will table a want of confidence vote beforo the Government get any opportunity of declaring a policy on which to go to the country; The corporation and underwriters confer to-day with the object of altering the building regulations.
2200 objections have been sent in at Wellington against the Land Tax. The district includes Taraaaki.
