(Pbb Pbess Agency.) BLUFF. Monday. The Tictorian Government are preparing measures for the coming session, which probably will not commence for three months or more yet. Of the three million loan, about one million will be available for railway conitruotion, so that all the lines projected can be carried out. The Governor opened the Sandhurst Industrial Exhibition on Wednesday. On Saturday night the steamer Leura fell in with a disabled barque off Wilson's Promontory; she had lost her rudder and become unsafe. The captain and crew had abandoned her, and she became • derelict. A large fire occurred at Chamberland and Kumpton's mill, North Fitsroy. The damage done was £6000, and was only partly insured. There was a large quantity of wheat and flour stored in the mill. The cause of the fire was unknown.

The Rev. T. C. Cole, a well-known Church of England clergyman, committed suicide by strangulation whilst of unsound mind. On the same day a neighbor of Mr Cole's, on hearing of the circumstances, also hanged himself. He was apparently sane and well off. No reason for tbe act can be assigned.

The want of rain is very much felt all over the country. The record at the Observatory shows a great deficiency compared with previous years, and as yet there is no sign of change.

The Coffee Taverns Company having obtained a suitable site, will at once commence the work of building.

The report of the Melbourne Meat Preserving Company shows a loss on the transaction for the half year of £15,401; this is attributed to the small quanity of stock that has come into the market, and the operations of tbe Stock Tax.
