BLENHEIM.

This day. Destructive Fire.

A fearful fire broke out at 3 a.m. this morning in the back room of Jensen's fancy goods shop. It continued on the southern side destroying Griffiths', Macy (photographer), Collier (fancy goods), Scott (confectioner), O'Sullivan (agent), and McNab (solicitor) ; at the same time it extended to the north side to Horn and Cleghorn's (surgeons and druggists), Presswood (watchmaker), Prichard (seedsman), Healey and Son (shoemakers), Dobson (bookseller), and J. Jellyman (butcher); the fire was stopped by pulling down Quinn's, the watchmaker. There was not a breath of wind, and the Fire Brigade worked well. Pennys, Falconer, and Eobinson Bros, premises were scorched, and the breakage in the latter establishment was considerable, The insurances on the block are inconsiderable, as some offices would not renew, and some policies only lapsed this week. Healey's stock is insured in the Norwich Union for £6C3, half of which is reinsured in the Standard. Other risks are held by the Colonial for £250 and the New Zealand for £350. Scott's building is insured for £250 in the Colonial; Jensen's stock, in the Colonial ior £350, Union £203; Presswood's stock, in the Northern for £200. Prichard, Macy, Collier and Penny are not insured. Most of the goods have been saved from Griffiths' building, which was covered by £400 in the Union ; Pobson's stock, £400 in the New Zealand, but much of it saved. Horn and Cleghorn were not insured, and nothing was saved but their books. Robinson Bros.' stock was damaged by removal, and ia insured in the Victoria office for £750, and in the Liverpool and London for £500; Jellyman, in the National for £1000; O'Sullivan and McNab's building, in the Victoria for £150, and in the Norwich Union for £200.
