There was a long discussion in tbe Presbyterian General Assembly.' last, night, the occasion being .the presentation of an overture from the Christchurch Presbytery anent the duties of the Ec» D. Bruce, suggesting that" the name should be altered to "Secretary to the Schemes of the Presbyterian Church," and asking that his duties sh mid be defined by the General Assembly of tho Presbyterian Church. The discussion occupied several hours, and showed that there was considerable feeling against the slightest suspicion that Mr Bruce should have a title or papers in , any way approaching those of an Episcopalian Bishop. The whole discussion was private, being held in committee. Ultimately tho overture was withdrawn, and the whole matter remitted to committee. The Assembly is expected to close on Saturday.'
