A woman named Goodyer, wife of Mr G'H'dyer, cab proprietor, attempted to poison herself this morning. She was se'-n by her little boy to throw some* tiling into her mouth and being asked what she had done she said she had poisoned herself. She was at once removed to the hospital, when dangerous symptoms set in, and she expired last niiiht. She had been in a very low state of mind for some days past in consequence of having received news of her mother's dent I). The poison is supposed to be strychnine.

The Eaiapoi Woollen Co. have turned out some manufactures during the last few days in the shape of blankets. They are pure lamb's wool, 8 feet in length and 6 feet 3 inches in width, weighing 191 bs a pair. The finish is exceedingly good, and the work is altogether highly creditable to the company.

A further meeting has been held to-night in counectien with the Eaitangata Relief Fund, aDd there is no doubt a very large -- sum will be collected.
