An English and a French frigate have gone to Alexandria to watch the events in .Egypt. :"' ,;:":v \:'-.,'■'■'■■':/> !, The first call of the City of Glasgow Bank yielded two millions. The estimated liabilities have been reduced and the assets increased,. so that full payment of the Bank's debts is expected to be made.
The French Prince Imperial is going to Natal to witness the campaign against the Zulus. ,
The Times in a leading article to-day announces it has reason to believe that the colonists of South Africa will adopt the system of Federal Government.
London, February 22. The Victorian Embassy have appointed to Bee Sir _M. Hicks-Beach on Wednesday. The bank reserve is stronger. The stock market presents no new feature. Government debentures are quiet, and the Victorian stock is lower. The wool market shows symptoms of weakness, and prices are 10 per cent, lower than in the last February sales. The corn market remains unchanged. February 24. Mr Berry interviews the Secretary of State for the Colonies to-morrow.
The Queen has published a letter sympathising with those who have lost friends in the late contest with the Zulus, and applauding the valour of the troops.
The Greek Archbishop has been murdered in the streets of Adrianople by Bulgarian refugees.
Mr Isaac Butt, Home Buler, is reported to be dangerously ill.
Shere Ali is reported to be dying of gangrene in the side from an old wound.
